What sizes do orthopedic mattresses come in?

Before you buy a mattress in an online store, take precise measurements of the sleeping area. Only then can you count on proper, healthy rest. An ordinary tape measure is all you need for the length and width of the bed. The frame and the mattress should not differ by more than 1 cm.

Standard models come as single, small double and double. Certain size parameters are built into production, so all that is asked of you is accurate starting figures – the factory takes care of the rest.

1. Length. The standard length for adults is 1.90, 1.95 and 2 m. Two-metre mattresses are universal and suit any height.
2. Height. Here the filling plays the leading role, since each type has different properties and compression limits. If you are unsure about your choice, talk it through with a store consultant.
3. Width. This one is dictated by the construction – single, small double or double. Standard sizes are shown in the table a little further down, though they can vary, as most manufacturers will make a mattress to order to the specifications you provide.

How do you match a mattress to the size you need?

Specialists say there are three basic rules to follow when choosing a mattress:

• add at least 15 cm to the person's height when choosing the length;
• the mattress should sit slightly above the side rails of the bed;
• the width of the mattress is dictated by the bed you have chosen.
