How to Clean a Mattress Effectively

Even the very best, highest-quality model bought at a mattress store in Almaty will last eight to ten years. If you never clean the place you sleep, that life gets cut several times over. Here is how to clean a mattress quickly at home and get rid of any smells and stains.
Bedding needs cleaning twice a year, whatever it is made of. A thorough clean takes up to 24 hours, drying in the sun included. Strip your orthopedic mattress completely, whether or not you bought it in Almaty (the model really does not matter), and wash the sheets. That includes the mattress topper and any covers.
Fit the upholstery attachment to your vacuum cleaner, switch it to the right setting and vacuum the top and the sides. This gets rid of any dust mites. The usual turbo brush you run over carpets is not effective for cleaning a mattress quickly, and it can damage the surface.
Saliva and sweat are the main culprits behind stains. You can treat them with a suitable stain remover, an enzyme cleaner for instance, but check the back of the bottle and make sure the product you have picked is safe to use on bedding. A little mild dish soap in a cup of water also helps when you need to clean a mattress effectively.
It is important to keep the mattress dry, especially if it is made of foam. Spray or apply the cleaner directly onto the stain and blot it gently. Do not press it into the material and do not let moisture sit. Repeat the step until the stain is gone.
If ordinary products do not shift the mark, mix bicarbonate of soda with cold water into a paste, apply it to the affected area and leave it for 30 minutes. Wipe it off with a damp cloth and repeat if you need to.
Do not skip the disinfecting stage. It helps get rid of any smells. First, try taking the mattress outside into direct sunlight, or put it next to a large window that lets the light through. This is optional, but ultraviolet light will disinfect the material.
Sprinkle the surface generously with bicarbonate of soda and leave it for a while, ideally 24 hours for the best result. Remember to bring the mattress back inside as soon as the sun starts to set.
The main steps for cleaning a mattress are now done, but try to vacuum it once more to draw out the leftover soda, and then put on a freshly washed mattress topper and clean sheets.
